My family and I recently received a complimentary copy of Math Galaxy software for the purpose of a review for the TOS Homeschool Crew.

Math Galaxy is a set of software programs on CD-rom available for the PC or the Mac. These programs provides a little bit of everything for your math instruction, review, practice, and gaming pleasure.
You can choose cd-roms from the following mathematical subject areas:
- Whole Numbers
- Word Problems (including Multi-Step)
- Fractions
- Decimals, Proportions, and Percents
- Pre-Algebra
- Algebra
Each subject area has topic areas with a multitude of skills and functions to choose from, everything from addition to division for each type of problem.
Once you’ve chosen a topic skill, you have the option of choosing the function, whether want an instructional review on the concept or practice problems, and if you want to approach the problem step by step or supply the answer only.
You also have the option of not choosing a skill topic, but choosing problem solving Word Jumbles, Bridge the Swamp, or Riddles by answering the problems and solving these puzzles. Once you’ve earned enough robots by practicing and answering different math problems correctly, you have the option of playing the Labyrinth game.
Another type of program you can choose from, aside from the instruction and practice problems, is the worksheet generators. You can choose a cd-rom to generate and print on of the following kinds of practice worksheets:
- Decimals
- Fractions
- Whole Numbers
- Algebra
Two e-books are also available on cd-roms to print and use for practice opportunity:
- Whole Number Riddles (130 out of the 500 problems available from the worksheet generator)
- Fractions (215 out of the 500 problems available from the worksheet generator)
My guys enjoyed solving the problems to earn robots to play the Labyrinth game the best.
I liked the optional feature of choosing Step by Step so my guys could watch the explanation of how to solve a problem one step at a time if they were having a problem understanding a concept.
I also liked the Word Problem set of instructional and practice problems, especially the multi-step kind of word problems. In our house, we can always use extra practice on those.
Visit Math Galaxy for a tour of what their software has to offer you.
Each Subject area on cd-rom is available for $29.95. The Worksheet Generators are also available for $29.95. The E-book cd-roms are available for purchase for $14.95.
